The Memory Harbour

The Memory Harbour at Clonskeagh Hospital, is a service for people concerned about their memory, those diagnosed with dementia and their families and carers and is based in Community Healthcare East.

The Memory Harbour is run by primary care Occupational Therapists. The service is by appointment only to people living in Dublin South and Dublin South East. To access the service, please request a referral form via me***********@hs*.ie or phone the relevant OT so that you can be added to the waiting list.

At your appointment in the Memory Harbour, you will meet with an Occupational Therapist who can
– provide advice and information on ways to help your memory;
– display equipment, assistive technology and items that can be helpful when living at home;
– assess, as appropriate, for cognitive/memory groups that we run;
– signpost to social activities in the community that can support your brain health and well-being.

The Memory Harbour is part of a network of Memory Technology Resource Rooms – these are assistive technology and memory enablement demonstration sites where people with dementia their families and health care workers, can come to observe the ideal environment that enable people with dementia to live well for longer in their own homes.

The demonstration rooms in the Memory Harbour include a kitchen, bedroom, bathrooms and living room. Importantly, these rooms are equipped with clinically appropriate furniture, utensils and safety items to make living longer at home an achievable option. All the rooms include guidance on how to clearly signpost the daily routine and household items required for a normal day.
Many examples of assistive technology that support people with dementia are on display. They include clocks, phones, remote controls, GPS devices and alarms. There are also examples of activities and reminiscence items including memory boxes, life story books, appropriate games and sensory resources.

The purpose of the Memory Harbour is to be a source of empowerment, education and support to people living with dementia, and to enable families and friends to see and try a range of products to make independent living easier.
